Clinical symptoms of liver cysts

Liver cysts are one of the more common lesions in clinical practice, and generally speaking, patients often have different clinical symptoms depending on the volume, size, and location of the cyst. Let’s learn together what clinical symptoms patients with liver cysts will have in clinical practice. First, if the patient’s liver cyst is small in size and the liver cyst is not located in the hepatic hilum, the edge of the liver, or the bifurcation of the intrahepatic bile ducts. It will not cause compression of local blood vessels and bile ducts, and patients may not have obvious clinical symptoms at this time. Second, if the patient’s liver cyst is larger in size and located at the edge of the liver, it is likely to cause the cyst to compress the duodenum, stomach, colon and other organs, and the patient will have abdominal pain after eating, abdominal distension, nausea, vomiting, anal exhaustion, bowel function is significantly weakened and other symptoms. Third, if the patient’s liver cyst is large in size, located at the hepatic hilar can cause compression of bile ducts and blood vessels. Patients may have bile stagnation and reflux into the blood, and the patient may develop obstructive jaundice such as yellow staining of the skin and sclera. A large hepatic cyst compressing the portal vein may cause obstruction of portal blood return and elevated portal vein pressure. The spleen may appear congested and enlarged. If the spleen compression of the portal vein is not released in time, it may cause hypersplenism, and the patient may feel the enlarged spleen tissue at the lower edge of the left rib cage. At the same time, due to hypersplenism, the patient’s blood tests may indicate a significant decrease in white blood cells, red blood cells and platelets. Clinically, for patients with liver cysts causing significant symptoms, surgical treatment or ultrasound-guided puncture and drainage of liver cysts is often required to reduce the symptoms of compression of the surrounding tissues by liver cysts, which can achieve better treatment results.
