Does a puncture biopsy hurt?

Puncture biopsy is not painful, mainly because the puncture is performed using a common injection needle with an outer diameter of about 0.6-0.9 mm and a syringe of usually 10-20 ml, which is pierced into the lesion area and the cells or small tissue pieces within the lesion are cut down by means of lifting and inserting the needle. At the same time, with the help of negative pressure in the syringe, it is sucked out and made into a pathological paraffin section, or stained and observed under the microscope, and finally completed the pathological diagnosis. This operation method is simple, safe and fast, and it is one of the more commonly used diagnostic methods in the clinic. Usually, the patient’s mind should be done well before the puncture, and it is convenient to take the material, and there is no or very little damage to the tissue, and the patient has no pain. In general, the clinician will give the patient a local anesthetic during the puncture, which is so mild that there is almost no pain during the procedure and the operation will soon be over, although in a few cases there is a slight pain that will completely disappear after a few hours. In exceptional cases, if the patient experiences symptoms such as discomfort, symptomatic treatment is given clinically. The advantages of doing puncture are mainly reflected in the simple production equipment, convenient and safe method, rapid diagnosis, easy census and tumor screening, relatively low cost of puncture, and the ability of puncture to play a decisive role, followed by surgical operation if necessary. It should be noted that it is better to keep fasting before the puncture biopsy to avoid the high fat content in the extracted material, which may affect the test results. It should also be noted that the puncture site should be chosen where it is easier to fix and should also avoid the location of large blood vessels.
