Anxiety disorder is a psychiatric disorder in which strong and prolonged feelings of worry and fear occur in everyday situations, which cannot be relieved on their own and whose onset is difficult to control. Patients with anxiety disorders are generally more sensitive to external sound stimuli because these sounds can trigger involuntary over-association, which can lead to fear and disgust of sounds, resulting in anxiety symptoms, such as anxiety about continuous sounds, fear of various tones and sounds, and nervousness and anxiety at the slightest sound, which are difficult to understand. The involuntary over-association of external sound stimuli in anxiety disorder patients may be due to the existence of cognitive impairment of sound in some anxiety disorder patients, and in a few anxiety disorder patients, there may also be relatively confused neurotransmission in the brain, which eventually leads to different processing of sound and produces anxiety-like symptoms. Depending on what anxiety disorder patients fear and dislike, they can become anxious about different sounds, unable to fully understand the information carried by sounds as ordinary people do, and sometimes may have exaggerated associations with the information conveyed by sounds, such as hearing the sound of brakes and associating it with car accidents or hearing the sound of cardiac monitoring and associating it with death. The fear of sound in patients with anxiety disorders can be treated through a combination of psychotherapy and medication. First of all, the patient needs to fully understand that sound is a kind of information and generally does not cause serious harm to himself, so that the treatment can be corrected according to cognition and behavior, such as the sound of water does not necessarily occur drowning, and the sound of speech does not necessarily target the anxiety patient himself. If necessary, drugs such as paroxetine and venlafaxine can also be used under the guidance of a doctor to ease the anxious mind, but note that anti-anxiety drugs should be avoided for long-term use to avoid drug dependence.
