What information do you have to prepare for your doctor before scoliosis surgery?

With a bulging back, unequal shoulders, or a neck that is so skewed that the neckline of their clothes is always slanted to one side, maybe your child is remembering scoliosis and needs further testing! So, what kind of examination is needed for scoliosis? First, the physical examination: we have to see whether his two shoulders are the same flat, his back is not the same flat. What are the changes in his walking posture? Secondly, imaging examination: the most important part of the imaging examination is to take x-ray film. This x-ray film has special requirements. It is necessary to take standing position, the whole spine front and side position film. There are two points to be clarified: the first is that the film should be taken in a standing position so that it can accurately reflect the severity of scoliosis. The second is to take an x-ray of the entire spine, including the skull and pelvis, so that we can see where the real curvature of the spine is. Usually, the films taken in some hospitals are one section at a time. For example, they take a film of the thoracic spine or a film of the lumbar spine. This kind of film is not qualified, it is not able to look at the overall scoliosis of the spine. What if surgery is needed? It is possible that an MRI and 3D ct will be needed, and these MRI and 3D ct will of course need to be done on the whole spine.
