How can new mothers protect their eyes?

My eyes have been dry since I gave birth, why is that? The normal eye has a tear film that covers the cornea and the front of the conjunctiva. This film is divided into a mucus layer, an aqueous layer and a grease layer from the inside out. These three layers are secreted by the conjunctival cupped cells and related glands, making the tear film evenly distributed on the surface of the eye, providing a smooth surface for the eye, supplying oxygen to the corneal epithelium, sterilizing and removing metabolic products. In the postpartum period, the tear production of many women is reduced (mainly the aqueous layer is not secreted enough), and because the conjunctival cupped cells are reduced by hormonal influences during pregnancy, this also leads to a reduction in the secretion of the mucus layer, making the uniform distribution of the tear film disrupted. Changes in the quality or quantity of any component of the three layers of tears can cause dry eyes. ”You can’t cry after childbirth or your eyes will go blind.” Is that really true? After giving birth, women’s bodies have to go through a recovery phase, such as the uterus needs 6 to 8 weeks to recover, and the hormone level in the body will also fluctuate greatly during this period, causing women to be emotionally unstable and easily agitated. The main reason you can’t cry after giving birth is to prevent postpartum depression, not because your eyes will go “blind” after crying. I was already nearsighted, but I think my eyesight is even worse after having a baby! Why? The tear film is the first surface where light enters the eye, providing a smooth optical surface. Instability of the tear film can directly affect vision. Local vasospasm and constriction of the blood vessels and reduced blood flow in the eye at the end of pregnancy and after delivery cause changes in the osmotic pressure of the atrial fluid in the eye, changes in the thickness of the cornea and an increase in the water content of the lens, and these changes can lead to an increase in myopia in the eye. This change gradually disappears about one month after delivery. Some people say that dietary supplements can protect eyesight, is there really such food? After the birth of the mother should pay more attention to protect the eyes, in addition to pay attention to the combination of work and rest, do not overuse the eyes, often eat some good food for the eyes, can also play a role in the protection of vision. First of all, we should add more protein, lean meat, poultry, fish, shrimp, milk, eggs, beans, etc. are rich in protein. Protein is the main component of human tissue, tissue repair and renewal requires continuous protein supplementation. Secondly, more vitamins should be added. When the human body is deficient in vitamin A, the eyes’ ability to sense low light decreases, and the ability to adapt to the dark environment is diminished, making them susceptible to night blindness in severe cases. In addition, lack of vitamin A can cause dry conjunctiva and few tears. The best sources of vitamin A are liver of various animals, cod liver oil, milk, eggs, and some vegetables and fruits, such as carrots, spinach, leeks, green peppers, kelp, nori, citrus, cantaloupe, mango, etc. Adequate intake of vitamin A not only helps to eliminate eye fatigue, but also prevents and treats night blindness, dry eye and macular degeneration. Vitamin C is one of the components of the lens in the eye, and a lack of vitamin C can easily lead to clouding of the lens and cataracts. Therefore, you should choose vegetables and fruits rich in vitamin C in your daily diet, such as: fresh dates, bok choy, cabbage, green pepper, bitter melon, tomato, radish, citrus, orange, strawberry, hawthorn, apple, etc. In addition calcium is also good for the eyes, calcium has the effect of eliminating eye muscle tension. Various kinds of soy products, milk, fish, shrimp, peanuts, walnuts, mushrooms, green vegetables, celery, etc. are rich in calcium. The old man said no TV and no computer, is that right? Maternity rest is good for the recovery of the body. Appropriate watching TV and computer can help women return to normal life as soon as possible, avoid loneliness and prevent postpartum depression, but be careful not to overdo it, and the time of watching TV and computer should not exceed 1 hour after delivery. I can’t wear contact lenses after giving birth, so when can I wear contact lenses? What do I need to pay attention to? Contact lenses are worn on the cornea in front of the eye to correct refractive errors. When wearing contact lenses, the tear film fills between the cornea and the lens, making the contact eye match the curvature of the corneal surface, smoothing the surface of the eye, supplying oxygen to the corneal epithelial cells, acting as a sterilizer and removing metabolic products. The secretion of conjunctival cupped cells and other glands is reduced by the influence of hormones in the body after childbirth, resulting in reduced tear secretion and changes in the content of each component of tears, and the uniform distribution of the tear film is damaged, affecting the wearing of contact lenses. Changes in corneal water content and corneal thickness after delivery will also affect the comfort of contact lens wear. It is recommended that contact lenses should not be worn for three months after delivery. If you wear contact lenses, pay attention to your personal hygiene, clean your lenses regularly, don’t wear contact lenses overnight, and take out your glasses and go to the hospital when your eyes are red or uncomfortable.
