How do I find the right doctor to see?

How to find the right doctor? Many people don’t know which specialist to see when they have a medical problem. Not only the patient is confused, but sometimes the doctor may not always find the right doctor when he or she encounters this problem. Here I will talk about my personal experience or approach for your reference. Last week, a young mother who had just lost her child came to see me. Before she could say a few words, she had three lines of tears, saying that she had given birth to a fat son six months ago, and before the family’s joy had passed, the child had died of an intracranial hemorrhage. The diagnosis at the children’s hospital was clear: late-onset vitamin K1 deficiency, and she came to me to ask if she could have a normal baby next time. Is it possible to prevent this from happening again and how to treat it to save the baby if it happens? I was stumped by this question, because I didn’t know anything about this disease, it was neither a gynecological nor an obstetric disease, and I didn’t know which department it belonged to. I was not busy that day, so I used the computer to find out which department to see and which specialist to find to solve this problem for this woman. First, I looked up “China Knowledge Network”, which is a domestic literature database that contains almost all academic articles in China. I typed in the keyword “vitamin K1 deficiency” and saw many articles. I found a few articles with a lot of cases to understand the history of the disease. I learned that there is no genetic predisposition to the disease, and therefore no need to see a geneticist. Most of the authors of these articles are hematologists or emergency medicine specialists at children’s hospitals, so I know that the disease is a hematologic disease, and it is a coagulation disease. We should find a specialist in coagulation. But the disadvantage of “China Knowledge Network” is that you can not find the full text, only the abstract. I searched “Baidu Library”, which had the full text of all the articles, and found a master’s thesis that reviewed many articles, including tens of thousands of cases of vitamin K deficiency, which was very valuable, and gave a copy of it to the young woman, so that she could go back and read the ins and outs of the disease, as well as treatment and prevention. She wanted to see the Concordia Medical Center. Then I opened the official website of the Peking Union Medical College (PUMC) and found the specialists in the department of hematology. I found a specialist who specializes in blood clotting disorders, especially vitamin K deficiency. Choosing a doctor is a learning process, and it’s not uncommon to see patients who have gone to great lengths to get a number, only to have it go to the wrong department or specialist. Sometimes you can find out which doctor is an expert in this field by looking at China Knowledge or Baidu Library, sometimes searching for “”, not only to get a general idea of the disease, but also to see which doctors have written related articles. The introduction of the hospital’s website can give you a preliminary idea of the specialists who specialize in a certain disease. The introduction of doctors in the hospital lobby is also a way to find out. If you ask the doctor in your department, you will usually know exactly which specialist you should see for your disease. However, doctors are busy and rarely get to talk to each other. Then you can register with a doctor who is not busy and can get a number, find out what you want to know, and even order the necessary tests and examinations first. Diseases are complex. For example, lower abdominal pain may be a digestive problem and you should see a basic surgeon or a gastroenterologist, and sometimes it is a gynecological problem. Sometimes it is inevitable that after seeing one doctor, you will be advised to go to another doctor, which brings another layer of heartache to the patient.
