It is not appropriate to say “unilateral ear stuffiness should be alerted to nasopharyngeal cancer”, because unilateral ear stuffiness is not a unique symptom of nasopharyngeal cancer, and it may also be caused by some other diseases. Unilateral ear stuffiness may be caused by excessive cerumen in the ear canal, which blocks the ear canal, or there may be some chronic inflammation in the ear, such as fungal inflammation of the ear canal, which may cause more local inflammatory secretion and may block the ear canal and cause ear stuffiness and other symptoms. Nasopharyngeal cancer though is also a malignant disease that can cause ear symptoms. For example, when the tumor presses the pharyngeal opening of Eustachian tube, patients may have hearing loss, tinnitus, and some symptoms similar to secretory otitis media, and may also have ear stuffiness and other discomforts. However, only through a single symptom of ear stuffiness, it is not possible to judge that it is caused by nasopharyngeal cancer. It is suggested that patients with symptoms of stuffy ears should go to ENT department of hospital for detailed examination, so as to clarify the cause of the disease in time and give targeted treatment as early as possible.
