Idiopathic scoliosis is usually discovered around age 10 by parents or other relatives when bathing a child, mostly because the child has an uneven back. Other manifestations include unequal shoulders, unequal pelvic heights, and unequal lengths of both lower limbs. Congenital scoliosis is easier to detect, as the deformity is present at birth, so most of it can be detected after birth. It manifests as an uneven back and, if accompanied by spina bifida, abnormal back hair, etc. Some patients are found late, but are usually detected around the age of 5 years.
