Duration of alprazolam effect

Alprazolam can take effect significantly 1 hour after taking it and usually lasts for about 10 hours. Alprazolam is a sedative-hypnotic drug with anxiolytic, sleep improving, anti-panic and acute alcohol withdrawal relieving effects. After taking it, the blood concentration will generally peak in 1-2 hours, so that the effect will be obvious after 1 hour. The half-life of the drug in the body is generally 12-15 hours, but in the elderly, due to the declining liver function, the drug metabolism time will be longer, up to 19 hours; the drug can be maintained in the body for 2-3 days, when the blood concentration will reach steady state. After 2-3 days of discontinuation, the concentration of the drug in the body will gradually decrease, and the patient may have sleep disorder, anxiety, panic and other manifestations again. Since the drug has a certain dependence, long-term use is not recommended, and the dosage should be adjusted or reduced under the guidance of a doctor, and the drug should not be stopped suddenly to avoid rebound phenomenon. Alprazolam has two sides, the proper use of the drug can treat the disease, improper use of the drug can damage the patient’s body or make the patient’s condition worse.
