What is wrist arthroscopy?

Recently, the joint surgery department has successfully performed the first wrist arthroscopic surgery in our city for two patients. This technique is not carried out in many municipal hospitals in Weifang either. Wrist arthroscopy, like knee arthroscopy, is also a minimally invasive technique. The surgery is done with two to three 0.3cm incisions, applying our Stryker 2.4mm small arthroscope. It is minimally invasive, eliminates the pain of open surgery, does not disrupt the anatomy of the wrist joint, and provides good results and quick recovery. These two patients were severe comminuted fractures of the distal radius. Deputy Director Wang Jianyi and Dr. Liu Yang of the Department of Joint Surgery first applied wrist arthroscopy, pried and reset the fracture, and then applied gram pins or plates for fixation, which allowed them to probe the damage to the articular surface of the wrist bone and radius during surgery, and then treated it. This allows the fracture to be repositioned and fixed under arthroscopic surveillance, which eliminates the pain of open surgery and does not interfere with the blood flow at the fracture end, and facilitates the healing of the fracture and the recovery of joint function. At present, the use of wrist arthroscopy has become more and more widespread, especially for the diagnosis and treatment of intra-articular disorders such as long-term wrist pain of unknown origin, carpal bone cyst removal, chronic synovitis, rheumatoid arthritis, degenerative osteoarthritis and lunar osteonecrosis cleanup, intra-articular free body removal, and intra-articular fracture. The development of wrist arthroscopy technology provides a new and effective method for the diagnosis and treatment of wrist joint diseases.
