Is there an effective medicine for SARS?

There is no specific drug treatment for SARS, and there is no definitely effective antiviral drug to date. SARS is an acute respiratory infection caused by SARS coronavirus, with fever, headache, muscle aches, and respiratory failure as the main symptoms, and severe patients are prone to acute respiratory distress syndrome. Treatment is mainly isolation, bed rest and attention to nutrition. The main treatment is symptomatic, using antibiotics for combined bacterial infections, cough suppressant and expectorant drugs for obvious cough, antipyretic and analgesic drugs and physical cooling for patients with high fever. Patients with electrolyte disturbance need timely supplementation to maintain water-electrolyte balance, close observation of vital signs, especially oxygen saturation, and timely use of non-invasive ventilator-assisted ventilation. If respiratory failure does not improve or further worsens, tracheal intubation with ventilator-assisted ventilation must be performed in a timely manner, and glucocorticoid therapy should be applied in severe cases.
