Glaucoma is a lifelong progressive, irreversible, blinding eye disease and the second most treatable blinding eye disease in the world. There are currently more than 70 million glaucoma patients worldwide, with estimates reaching 80 million by 2020, and more than 10 million patients eventually becoming blind as a result. Glaucoma causes 50% of the total number of blind people worldwide. It is speculated that there are 6.5-9 million glaucoma patients in China, and the number is increasing every year. According to the current situation, nearly 80% of the glaucoma patients who come to our hospital do not understand their condition and the damage they may bring to themselves, and nearly 30% of the patients become blind because they miss the time of treatment. Therefore, we would like to remind you that: 1. Once glaucoma is detected, it must be treated early, such as early drug or surgical intervention, it is generally possible to preserve good or useful vision, or at least not deteriorate sharply, so that you can live in a bright world during your lifetime. For patients with severe visual field and vision impairment, we should not give up treatment. 3. For patients who have received surgery or drug maintenance treatment, even if the IOP is normal, they should be followed up regularly to detect problems and deal with them in a timely manner so that they do not lose their vision unknowingly. In conclusion, let’s pay attention to glaucoma, prevent glaucoma, strive for early detection and early treatment, and build our beautiful world together.
