Varicose veins do not usually cause leg pain. The most important manifestations of varicocele are obvious enlargement in the scrotum, swelling and pain, which are usually aggravated after strenuous exercise or long walk or run, and relieved after lying down. If the symptoms do not disappear after lying down, other causes or secondary varicocele should be considered. In patients with varicocele, the diagnosis can be made by scrotal ultrasound. The vast majority of varicose veins do not cause leg pain. Leg pain must be watched for thrombosis of the lower extremities and herniated lumbar discs, and orthopedic consultation is recommended.
