Meals after major burns

Early nutrition is critical after extensive burns, and if adequate nutrition is given early, it is helpful for the patient’s recovery. Patients with large burns should first maintain the function of the gastrointestinal tract in the early stages and have an early diet. You can give yogurt like milk, fluids and rice soup and paste to gradually promote the recovery of the gastrointestinal tract function and prevent damage to the mucosa of the gastrointestinal tract. If the patient’s gastrointestinal tract function is good and no bloating or diarrhea occurs, feeding can be done through the esophagus. If the patient has a strong swelling of the head and face, has difficulty in eating or combined symptoms, has difficulty in breathing or has other problems with the head and face, and the patient cannot eat on his own, a gastric tube can be left in place to facilitate the recovery of the gastrointestinal tract function by injecting ready-made pastes and highly nutritious preparations into the gastric tube to provide nutrition for the high metabolic state that occurs after the burn. In addition to parenteral nutrition, there is also enteral nutrition for patients with large burns, but it is recommended to combine them and restore the patient’s gastrointestinal nutrition as early as possible according to the patient’s condition. Large burns patients should avoid the intake of spicy and irritating food, in addition, must pay attention to the choice of food, must pay attention to the degree of cleanliness and hygiene of food, do not consume food that has been too long, the occurrence of food that causes bloating, diarrhea to avoid, more beneficial to the patient’s recovery. In addition, for patients with large burns, the number and quantity of feedings should also be adjusted according to the patient’s condition, which can be done several times a day, not necessarily three or five times, but in small quantities according to the patient’s condition.
