The treatment of lung cancer in Chinese medicine has been found in some prescription books of the Song Dynasty, which contain prescriptions for the treatment of common symptoms of lung cancer, such as Xiben, cough, wheezing and coughing, coughing with blood, congestion in the chest and diaphragm, vomiting and phlegm production, yellowing and thinness. In the Jin-Yuan period, Li Dongyuan’s Xiben Pill, which was used to treat lung accumulation, was used to treat symptoms similar to those of lung cancer. In modern times, medical practitioners have identified a more stable pattern of symptoms in a large number of clinical practices and practical researches, and after clear diagnosis by modern medical methods, under the guidance of Chinese medical theory, the evil and the deficiency are distinguished and the medicine is dispensed cubically. According to the combination of local and overall viewpoints, the combination of evidence-based treatment and disease-specific treatment, and the combination of corrective and anti-cancer treatment is applied to the treatment of lung cancer, which has achieved certain efficacy in improving the symptoms, regulating the immune function of the body and prolonging the survival period. Chinese medicine has characteristics and advantages in the treatment of lung cancer, which are mainly reflected in three aspects: i. For middle-aged and elderly lung cancer patients with poor physical condition, the combination of Chinese medicine with zero-toxic chemotherapy and qi-yin double tonic, phlegm removal and cough suppression often has good effect; ii. About 90% of patients with medium amount of pleural fluid can be well controlled within 2 to 3 weeks by combined Chinese and Western medicine treatment. Besides, the combination of Chinese medicine treatment and surgery can not only help to restore the body but also prevent the recurrence and metastasis of lung cancer by supporting the righteousness and eliminating the evil; and the combination of radiotherapy and chemotherapy can reduce the toxic side effects of radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
