Menorrhagia is one of the common and difficult gynecological diseases. Due to the hectic pace of life in today’s society, women are generally under greater mental stress, in addition to the widespread use of oral contraceptives, and many factors such as medication abortion and induced abortion due to unplanned pregnancies, resulting in a higher incidence of the disease year by year. Western medicine routinely uses hormone replacement therapy, the more common method is to inject progesterone intramuscularly, causing withdrawal bleeding and forming an artificial cycle. Although it can be effective in the short term, it cannot maintain the long-term effect, and the side effects are large, which is difficult to satisfy patients.
According to the theory of TCM, the use of artificial cycles with progesterone, if necessary, has been effective in the clinical treatment of menorrhagia. According to TCM theory, the physiological changes of the menstrual cycle are the physiological changes of the transformation of kidney yin and yang, the menstrual cycle is composed of four phases: menstruation, late menstruation, intermenstrual ovulation and premenstruation. The first phase of the menstrual cycle is the long and heavy Yang, which will enter the menstrual phase and undergo another new cycle of evolution.
If yin and yang lose their normal transformation, it will lead to amenorrhea. Therefore, in my clinical treatment, I follow these rules to promote ovulation and thus restore menstruation. It is said that those who are good at nourishing Yin must seek Yin in Yang, and start taking it on the 7th day of the menstrual cycle, that is, in the late menstrual period, to encourage Yin to grow and Yang to disappear when Yin grows. During the ovulation period, it is mainly used to tonify the kidneys and strengthen the yang, to relax the liver and regulate the qi, to nourish the blood and activate the blood, so as to facilitate the smooth transformation of the heavy yin into yang, and to make the qi and blood activity favorable to the egg discharge. In the pre-menstrual period, the main purpose is to tonify kidney yang, supplemented by nourishing kidney yin, as the saying goes, those who are good at tonifying yang must seek yang in yin. In patients with amenorrhea, herbal artificial cycle treatment is applied to treat both the symptoms and the root cause, without toxic side effects.
