Diet and medication precautions for patients with renal failure

Avoid foods that aggravate the burden on the kidneys, and consume high-quality animal protein foods, such as: fresh milk, eggs, and meat. Avoid: legumes (red beans, green beans, mung beans, fava beans, snap beans, mung beans, bowl bean kernels), soy products (tofu, dried beans, soy milk), nuts (melon seeds, peanuts, walnuts, cashews, corn), and so on. Vegetable oil (e.g., soybean, peanut oil), low-protein starch (e.g., clarified rice flour, white flour, lotus root powder,) and sugar (e.g., rock sugar, honey, ginger sugar, fruit sugar) are preferred, and the amount of water consumed should be the previous day’s total urine volume plus 500 milliliters (ml). This includes liquids such as boiled water, diluted rice, milk, soup and beverages. And should limit high sodium foods, such as processed canned food, pickled and smoked products, soy sauce, kimchi, pickles and fast food. Prevent excessive potassium ions from causing “hyperkalemia”, which may result in numbness of the fingers, fatigue, weakness of the limbs, tightness in the chest, stiffness of the tongue, difficulty in speaking, loss of consciousness, and, in severe cases, arrhythmia or cardiac arrest. It is recommended to minimize the consumption of high potassium vegetables: such as nori and seaweed. Eat less high-potassium fruits: such as bananas, oranges, mangoes, etc. Pay attention to reduce the intake of high-phosphorus foods: whole grain cereals and products (such as brown rice, germ rice, whole grain bread), internal organs (liver, kidney, brain), nuts (peanuts, cashews, walnuts) and sauce products (peanut butter), chocolate, egg yolks, and so on.
