What are the causes of vestibular ataxia?

Vestibular ataxia is caused by damage to the vestibular system and is predominantly a balance disorder. It is characterized by balance disturbances at rest and during movement. It has similarities with cerebellar ataxia, such as wide base of both feet when standing, unsteadiness, leaning to the side or back, and skewing when walking. However, they are generally distinguished by the presence of vertigo, nystagmus and abnormal vestibular function tests. The former is caused by the lesion of the vestibule to the vestibular nerve in the inner ear, while the latter is caused by the lesion of the vestibular nucleus and its center. 1, viral infection: serum assay after the disease, herpes simplex and herpes zoster virus potency are significantly increased. 2, vestibular nerve stimulation: the vestibular nerve suffers from vascular compression or arachnoid adhesions, or even neurohypoxic degeneration due to narrowing of the internal auditory tract, and develops due to excitation of the nerve discharge. 3, focal factors: there may be an autoimmune reaction. 4.Diabetes mellitus: diabetes mellitus can cause degeneration and atrophy of vestibular neurons, resulting in recurrent vertigo attacks.
