For beauty and health: eliminating the “earthworms” on the legs

Superficial varicose veins of the lower extremities are one of the common diseases of peripheral vascular medicine, which refers to the elongated, sinuous and varicose state of the superficial venous system of the lower extremities. The World Health Organization defines superficial varicose veins as limited, segmental cystic or cylindrical dilatation of superficial veins. According to statistics, the prevalence rate is 10% in the United States and 20% in Canada, while there are about 100 million varicose vein patients in China, with a prevalence rate of 10-40%. Superficial varicose veins of lower limbs mostly occur in people who are engaged in persistent standing work or manual laborers, such as: traffic police, flight attendants, teachers, white-collar office workers, surgeons, patients with deep vein thrombosis, injured calf veins, elderly people and congenital weakness of vein walls, mall salesmen, nurses, restaurant waiters and pregnant women. According to western medicine, congenital weakness of vein wall, venous valve insufficiency and increased pressure in superficial veins are the main causes of superficial varicose veins. According to the ancestral medicine, the superficial varicose veins of lower limbs belong to the category of “tendon tumor”, which is caused by congenital deficiency of endowment, and acquired disorder of spleen and stomach, resulting in downward injection of dampness, internal obstruction of blood stasis, and heat damage to veins and ligaments. The main clinical manifestations are: at first there may be no obvious symptoms, some patients often feel the affected limb heavy, swelling and pain, easy fatigue, can be relieved after rest. The superficial veins of the affected limb gradually appear to be elevated and dilated, and sometimes they can be curled into a mass or sac, especially obvious after standing, but disappear after raising the leg. In long duration of the disease, the skin of lower leg and ankle is colored with hyperpigmentation, itching and eczema. In some patients, thrombophlebitis can be complicated by thrombophlebitis, with localized redness, swelling, and pressure pain. The varicose veins are prone to bleeding from injury, or infection and ulceration. Therefore, the superficial varicose veins of lower limbs must be treated in time. I suggest that patients should go to the peripheral vascular department of regular hospital to receive professional doctor’s consultation and treatment, do not believe in private hospitals, ancestral secret recipes and street prescriptions and other propaganda advertisements, so as not to delay the disease. For the treatment of superficial varicose veins of lower limbs, the following methods are mainly available at home and abroad: compression therapy by elastic stockings, sclerotherapy, traditional high ligation + point hook peeling, endovascular laser ablation and minimally invasive techniques such as venous spinotomy. At present, our department adopts the combination of multiple minimally invasive techniques and takes advantage of Chinese medicine in postoperative recovery treatment to treat many cases of superficial varicose veins of lower limbs, all of which have achieved good results. Surgery is not the purpose for treating superficial varicose veins of lower limbs, it only provides a means of treatment, while the real purpose of treating superficial varicose veins of lower limbs is in prevention!        How to prevent it? 1, usually do more legs up and down swing or stirrup clip exercise, more leg massage; 2, need to stand for a long time, can wear preventive elastic socks to promote superficial venous blood return; 3, when standing, do not always use two legs together to support the weight of the whole body, can have some focus, let the two legs rotate rest, at the same time to often tiptoe, let the heel together with a drop activity, or often squatting exercises. 4, every night before going to bed, to get into the habit of washing feet with warm water, avoid washing feet with cold water, which can eliminate fatigue, is conducive to sleep, more blood circulation. 5, adhere to do hook toe exercise, strengthen the front outer calf muscles strong contraction, improve blood circulation in the lower limbs, prevent superficial varicose veins, and have thin legs and beautify the role of calf curve.
