Lung puncture biopsy is primarily a means of detecting lung disease and is generally used to detect tumors, nodules, and ill-defined lung diseases. In addition to the diagnosis of lung lesions, it can also be used to diagnose unexplained mediastinal masses.

Risks of percutaneous lung puncture include pneumothorax and hemoptysis. Contraindications to lung puncture are those with severe bleeding tendencies, those with severe malaise who cannot tolerate this test, those with severe emphysema, pulmonary heart disease, pulmonary hypertension, cardiac insufficiency, pulmonary vascular lesions, and those who are unable to cooperate or cough violently.
