Spina bifida typing and treatment

There are two types of spina bifida: recessive and dominant. The former does not require treatment if no abnormalities in spinal cord morphology or position are seen on MRI, while the latter is divided into four types: spina bifida, spinal cord spina bifida, spinal cord spina bifida with lipoma, and spina bifida with intraspinal lipoma, usually combined with spinal cord embolism syndrome. All kinds of manifest spina bifida should be operated after detection, and the surgery should preferably be performed in the first 6 months of life, and the results of the surgery are related to the specific condition and age. Despite the risks associated with surgery, surgery is still the only treatment for this disease.
