Infection prevention: Infection is one of the most important causes of death in children with leukemia. The immune function is reduced in leukemia, and the immune function is further reduced by the reduction or lack of mature neutrophils due to the suppression of bone marrow by chemotherapy drugs. Granulocytopenia or deficiency and reduced immune function are risk factors for the development of infections. The longer the granulocytopenia lasts, the greater the threat of infection.
The following measures can be taken to prevent infections.
Pay attention to personal hygiene: keep your mouth clean, rinse it with warm water or oral solution before and after eating. It is advisable to use a soft-haired toothbrush to avoid damage to the oral mucosa causing bleeding and secondary infection. If there is mucosal fungal infection, use fluconazole or itraconazole to rub the affected area.
