Appendicitis surgery is a common surgical procedure, but the morphological structure and function of the elderly organism have undergone certain degeneration, and the immunity, physiological reserve capacity, resistance and stress response level to surgical trauma of the organism have decreased, therefore, the postoperative management of appendicitis in elderly patients should be strengthened to promote the early recovery of patients according to the systemic condition. Postoperative rehabilitation of elderly patients should pay attention to the following issues: 1. Postoperative position: 6 hours after surgery, it is advisable to lie in a 30°~45° head-high-foot-low slope position to facilitate breathing and effective drainage of the surgical incision and reduce the tension of the abdominal wall surgical incision. 2, get up and activities: after anesthesia disappears, patients should be encouraged to move in bed, such as deep breathing, active activities of limb muscles and joints and intermittent turning, patting back to help cough, etc., 24 hours after surgery can be moved around the bed with the help of family members, 2-3 days after surgery can be moved out of bed with the help of family members, the amount of activity gradually increased according to the patient’s tolerance. Early activity is beneficial to increase lung capacity, reduce pulmonary complications, improve systemic blood circulation, promote incision healing, and reduce the incidence of venous thrombosis, in addition to promoting intestinal motility recovery and preventing intestinal adhesions. 3, diet: the first day after surgery can eat a liquid diet (rice soup, vegetable soup, etc.), the second and third days to eat a semi-liquid diet (noodles, rice flour, rice, etc.), the fourth day to resume the ordinary diet. The duration of the semi-liquid diet can be increased appropriately, and the food should be diversified to be nutritious and easy to digest, with more fruits and vegetables. 4, other issues that should be noted: pay attention to keep warm after surgery, prohibit smoking and drinking, ensure sufficient sleep, maintain a relaxed mood, and avoid overwork. Patients with other concomitant diseases such as hypertension and diabetes should not interrupt the relevant treatment.
