Patellar subluxation does not have to be treated surgically, but depends on the specific cause of the patellar subluxation. If the growth and development of the patella are fine and the dislocation is caused by a simple trauma, it can be protected for one month to one and a half months by repositioning the brace or external fixation in a cast. However, if the patella is dislocated because of incomplete bone growth, asymmetry in the force lines of the lower extremity, or even because the patella is dislocated and the surrounding tendons or ligaments have been severely damaged, surgery must be considered. Otherwise, even if the patellar dislocation is restored to its original position through manual repositioning, the surrounding injuries will not be restored and habitual patellar dislocation will easily form in the future, which will make the whole treatment even more troublesome at that time.
