In elderly patients with cardiogenic edema, the treatment is mainly diuretic and vasodilator, and can be done by static pushing of furosemide, or torasemide to reduce edema. The starting dose of a drug like furosemide is usually 20-40 mg, and if the patient does not have a significant effect after this dose, the dose can be increased, preferably not more than 200 mg per day. if the patient still suffers from shortness of breath and dyspnea after the application of diuretics, a combination of drugs like Synthroid or sodium nitroprusside can be used to further improve the symptoms. If the patient still suffers from wheezing after applying the above drugs, drugs such as dihydroxypropyl theophylline can also be used to calm wheezing. In addition to diuresis, patients are advised to take potassium chloride supplements to prevent hypokalemia.
