Risks of Resin Veneer Surgery

Resin veneers are sculpted, color-matched, and polished directly on the tooth surface using resin materials to improve the color, alignment, and shape of the teeth. It is more effective for front teeth with fluorosis, mild tetracycline, too small teeth, gaps, and traumatized teeth with partial defects. Resin veneers are minimally invasive or non-invasive treatment with natural results and little risk, but the firmness is poor. If the resin veneer is dislodged, the following risks may arise: 1. If the resin veneer is partially dislodged, there may be only a slight irritation pain; 2. If the resin veneer is dislodged to a larger extent and the patient has obvious discomfort symptoms, such as pain when drinking cold or hot water, he should immediately go to the local specialist hospital for examination. The reason of shedding may be caused by the patient biting into something hard, or it may be caused by the patient not paying attention to oral hygiene, resulting in further decay of the dental tissue around the filling. In case of veneer loss, timely examination and restoration is recommended. When the scope of the patient’s restoration loss is relatively large, inlay restoration is recommended. When the extent of defect is relatively small, resin filling restoration can be chosen to endodontics. When the extent of resin veneer loss is relatively large, such as more than 1/2 of the veneer, the patient needs to go to the local prosthodontics department for examination and choose the appropriate restoration option, such as restoration with inlays or high inlays, or even a full crown restoration is required.
