Food therapy for cancer patients

At present, the treatment of malignant tumors generally adopts surgery, radiation and drug therapy, and the dietary treatment of cancer patients does not attract real attention, which is really a big defect. Malignant tumor is a serious wasting disease, which is mostly manifested clinically as wasting, exhaustion, weakness and weakness. Due to the destruction of tumor, patients often have complication symptoms such as fever, bleeding, anorexia, pain, wheezing, coughing and abnormal stool. The current use of radiation, cytotoxic drugs or surgical resection therapy also causes more damage to the patient’s body while receiving treatment, forming new complication syndromes and aggravating the clinical manifestation of “evil is real and deficient”. Therefore, the principles of food therapy for tumor patients should be formulated according to the clinical characteristics of tumor patients, taking into account the characteristics of each organ tumor, and “discriminating food” in order to achieve the expected therapeutic purpose. In the etiological study of tumor, we found that improper diet is one of the causative factors of tumor development. High-fat food, nitrosamines, additives with carcinogenic effect and other harmful substances, such as 3,4-benzopyrene, asbestos fiber, aflatoxin, fusarium cepacia, cross-streptavidin monomethyl ether and other contaminated food, have contributed to the development of cancer. Therefore, in the usual diet, it is not advisable to eat and drink foods that are too hot, not to eat things that contain too much fat, not to eat improperly cooked, seriously burnt, fried, fried and smoked chicken, duck and fish, not to eat rotten and spoiled vegetables and moldy peanuts, corn, rice and less salt moldy pickles, less canned foods, and pay attention not to drink strong alcohol. 2, dietary treatment should focus on nourishing the “gastric energy”, to protect the body’s “backbone” Diet and drugs are digested and absorbed through the spleen and stomach to play a role. Therefore, for each patient, if the spleen and stomach function is reduced or the “stomach qi” is decayed, it means difficulty in treatment. After suffering from tumor, the direct invasion of tumor, post-surgery damage, toxic side effects of radiotherapy, over-starvation and over-feeding, diet disorder, as well as the anxiety and agitation that tumor patients often have, can affect and damage the digestive function of spleen and stomach, causing nutritional disorders. In addition, the spleen and stomach function can also be damaged by taking bitter and cold Chinese medicine in large doses for a long time. Clinical practice proves that if the function of spleen and stomach is damaged, malnutrition and reduced immune function of the body appear, anti-tumor treatment is often ineffective and will further deteriorate the already damaged spleen and stomach function. Due to the weakness of the spleen and stomach, patients often suffer from loss of appetite, stuffy stomach and abdomen, even nausea and vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain. At this time, a lot of nourishing food should not be given; a lot of meat and grease will not only aggravate the digestive tract symptoms, but also have a negative impact on the condition. The treatment should be based on the protection of stomach qi, supplemented by the regulation of liver and spleen. You can use yam, gravy, barley, white lentils, adzuki beans, dates, Buddha’s hand, lycopodium, white radish, hawthorn, poria cake, Shen Qu, chicken, pork belly, lamb belly, mutton, fish maw and other spleen-strengthening and de-leafing products, blended into food to take. 3. Diet therapy should be combined with supporting the righteous and dispelling the evil. The treatment of malignant tumor must be combined with supporting the righteous” and dispelling the evil. Diet therapy, as an auxiliary means to “help righteousness and dispel evil”, is a part of the treatment that cannot be ignored. When using surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and other anti-cancer treatments, besides using Chinese herbs to support the righteousness and supplement the deficiency, it should be supported by diet and nutrition. Many cereals, animals, fruits, vegetables and other foods have the effect of supporting the righteousness. The polysaccharides contained in Qin food can improve the body’s tolerance to chemotherapy and radiotherapy, protect the hematopoietic function of bone marrow, and maintain the immune function of the body so that the decline of white blood cells and platelets in the blood can be prevented and controlled, which can play the role of dietary supplement. If you can’t recover your body well through diet and medicine during the inter-treatment period, it is impossible to continue the treatment again. We should also pay attention to the combination of attack and supplement in the diet: when the function of spleen and stomach is still good, choose some foods that are both nutritious vegetables and have anti-tumor effect. Such as shiitake mushroom, silver fungus, black fungus, shepherd’s purse, horse tooth forage, pig’s raspberry, eastern cabbage, fragrant tea cabbage, yellow flowering cabbage, raw coix seed, fenugreek, walnut, purple cabbage, seaweed, rhizome, cichlid mushroom, taro, asparagus, almond, crab, shrimp, etc. This also shows from one side that food therapy is not only to eat some highly nutritious food, but also to eat some food that may have inhibiting effect on tumor, so that food nutrition and food therapy can be combined. 4. Pay attention to the nature and function of food, and eat according to its “evidence”. Therefore, we should choose food according to the coldness, heat, deficiency and reality of the patient’s condition. We should not think that tumor patients need high nutrition and can eat and drink at will regardless of the food nature. Some people advocate that cancer patients should eat turtle, but turtle cools blood and replenishes yin. Therefore, it is important to emphasize the importance of “evidence-based diet” and not to eat indiscriminately. If the heat and toxicity is abundant, the evil fire blazes, and there is a hot image, you should not just throw in warm tonic products, such as ginseng, antler, gui yuan, mutton, dog meat, shrimp, etc., but should eat cool foods such as amaranth, chestnut, yellow flowering cabbage, fresh root, rutabaga, silver fungus, bamboo shoots, pigeon meat, duck meat, etc., which have the effect of clearing heat and detoxifying; if the spleen and stomach are weak, you should use sweet and warm aromatic sand, wood, poria, yam, Buddha’s hand, hawthorn, pepper, etc. If the spleen and stomach are weak, the spleen and stomach should be awakened and appeased with sweet and warm aromatic sand, mullein, poria, yam, foxglove, neijin, hawthorn and pepper. In case of Yin sores and gangrene, patients whose Yang energy is not enough to dissolve Yin toxins should take foods such as ginseng, astragalus, gui yuan, angelica, cinnamon, mutton, dog meat, hen, pumpkin, etc. to warm Yang and hold the toxins. If you take peach kernel, almond and other toxic foods must be processed and concocted before use to avoid poisoning. 5.Favor sweet and cool, be careful with pungent and dry. Tumor patients often have fever and bleeding symptoms. During radiotherapy, patients will also have symptoms of heat poisoning and yin injury such as dry mouth and tongue, while chemotherapy and surgery can also lead to loss of yin and blood and produce internal heat. Therefore, the tumor patients seen in clinical work have more hot symptoms and less cold ones. In terms of diet, sweet, cool and clear should be the main reason. Patients can eat more watermelon, winter melon, pear, water chestnut, mulberry, mulberry, lily, lotus root, mulberry, carrot, white radish, pork, duck, pigeon, egg, buttermilk and other foods; roasted fried, fatty, sweet and spicy products, are not selected. It is also not advisable to use more cinnamon, fennel, pepper, nutmeg and other seasonings in meals. It is worth noting that, although most patients have the image of warmth, should not be too cold, so as not to damage the stomach gas, affecting the recovery and treatment of patients. 6. The diet should be delicious and varied, and try to choose some foods that can prevent and cure cancer. The ancients said, “Poisons attack evil, five grains are for nourishment, five fruits are for help, five animals are for benefit, five dishes are for enrichment, and the odors are combined and served to replenish the essence.” Therefore, the recipes for cancer patients should be diversified, so that the nutrients consumed by each patient are as complete and balanced as possible. On this basis, we can also try to choose some foods that are proven by modern medicine to prevent and cure cancer, because they are rich in vitamins A, B, C, E, carotene, carotenoids, trace elements, polysaccharides and fiber. For example, garlic, onion, beet, asparagus, fig, kiwi, rooibos, papaya, water chestnut, cinnamon, plum, lily, rhizome, oolong tea, barley, mung bean, black bean, soybean, wood ear, mushroom, kelp, purple mussel, clam, oyster, squid, squid, sea cucumber, sea jelly, carp, snapper, cruciferous vegetables such as hollow moss, cabbage, cauliflower, Chinese cabbage, baby carrot, etc. You can choose any of them. If properly prepared and cooked with good color and flavor, the appetite of patients can be greatly increased. In the prevention and treatment of cancer, people can enjoy the food at the same time. 7. Hairy food” and “avoidance of food”. At present, there is no effective means to cure malignant tumors, and some patients have relapsed soon after surgery and radiotherapy. As the reason of recurrence is not well understood, some patients and their families attribute the possible factors of recurrence to careless diet or “taboo”. In some places, it is said that chicken cannot be eaten, fish, shrimp and seafood are “hairy”, and scaleless fish cannot be eaten. In many ancient prescriptions, according to the different drugs also recorded a lot of corresponding “taboos”, some are also quite strict. However, in our clinical work, we have not encountered any cases of recurrence or deterioration due to lax “taboos”. Some early stage patients with good results of radical surgery did not have recurrence or metastasis even without dietary “taboos”. This shows that there is no scientific basis for blaming recurrence and metastasis entirely on laxity in “avoidance of food”. Further scientific research is needed on the issue of “avoidance of food”. Our view is that there is a close relationship between diet and cancer development, and appropriate “avoidance of food” is still necessary, but we should insist on opposing the behavior of over-emphasizing “avoidance of food”. The “taboo” for tumor patients should be carried out under the principle of “evidence-based diet” and should not be too strict, nor should the recipes be too narrow. Some people make a mystery of what to do, so that patients are at a loss, even tofu, vegetables and so on are afraid to eat, resulting in the deterioration of patients’ nutritional status, which is very harmful.
