Single-port thoracoscopic lobectomy for early stage lung cancer

The status of VATS lobectomy for early-stage NSCLC has been confirmed, and its near-term clinical results are superior to those of open-heart surgery; its long-term clinical results are no worse than or even better than those of open-heart surgery. In recent years, single-port thoracoscopy as well as single-port subxiphoid thoracoscopy for surgical treatment of lung cancer has emerged with safety and reliability similar to conventional three-port VATS pneumonectomy. Compared with conventional three-incision, single-port VATS has fewer incisions, and the entire operation is completed with a small 3-4 cm incision, resulting in less damage, more aesthetic incisions, and less postoperative pain. Xie Dong, Department of Thoracic Surgery, Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital The Department of Thoracic Surgery, Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital, Tongji University, has been performing single-port thoracoscopic surgery since 2012, and has performed more than 4,000 single-port thoracoscopic surgeries. The development of this procedure has optimized the surgical operation process, effectively reduced the surgical trauma and further reduced the pain of patients, at the same time, it does not increase the cost of patients. Currently, the center performs the first number of single-port thoracoscopic procedures in the world. The Department of Thoracic Surgery of Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital of Tongji University has successfully held several single-port international thoracoscopic study courses and has enrolled and trained 150 international trainees mainly senior foreign physicians, including the former President of the European Association of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery and the President of the Philippine Association of Thoracic Surgeons. Among them, Director Yu-Ming Zhu was invited to Russia to perform single-port thoracoscopic surgery demonstration.
