Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences: From the point of view of lung lesions, the new coronary pneumonia is milder than SARS

In terms of pathology, how much similarity is there between the new crown pneumonia and SARS, and what are the differences? Bian Xiuwu, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and director of the Department of Pathology at the Southwest Hospital of the Army Medical University, said that through pathological observation, in terms of the degree of the whole lung lesion, the new crown pneumonia is slightly lighter than SARS. We compared with SARS through pathological observation, and consulted the experts who did the original pathological diagnosis of SARS, and found that there are several differences. First, in terms of the severity of the overall lung lesions, the degree of destruction of alveolar structure and lung necrosis in CKP is slightly less severe than that of SARS. Second, both had type II alveolar epithelial hyperplasia, but the hyperplasia in SARS generally dropped into the alveolar lumen, whereas the hyperplasia in C. neoformans pneumonia was very active. There are also differences in the degree and course of alveolar fibrosis, the form of viral presence, and the degree of aggregation of attacking cells. In addition, in organs outside the lungs, the damage caused by the new crown pneumonia was slightly heavier than in SARS, indicating that in addition to the lungs, many organs outside the lungs, especially the immune system, were greatly damaged.
