If the fatty liver is caused by a primary cause (e.g. hepatitis C, diabetes), treatment of the primary cause is required along with changes in lifestyle habits that are not conducive to liver recovery and the use of liver-protective drugs.
If there is no significant primary disease, for severe fatty liver, in addition to improving lifestyle habits, some medication may be required, and regular review of liver function and imaging tests.
