A vocal cord cyst is a cystic mass that exists mainly in the vocal cord and vocal folds. The cause is related to inflammation and excessive use of the voice. The main manifestation of vocal cord cysts is hoarseness, but in some cases, excessive enlargement of the cyst may cause some patients to experience dyspnea. In addition, because the local mass may be large, some patients may experience persistent discomfort in the throat, which is not overtly painful, but may only be caused by the swelling.
