How do I get my patients to recover as soon as possible after chest surgery?

Coughing and sputum expectoration promote the recovery of respiratory function: after chest surgery, patients should actively carry out respiratory rehabilitation exercises to restore respiratory function and prevent pulmonary atelectasis and respiratory system infection. However, due to the postoperative patients’ fear of pain, they do not dare to cough, resulting in the accumulation of secretions in the trachea. If the patients have a long-term smoking habit before the operation, it can increase the secretions in the bronchial tubes, which is more likely to cause pulmonary atelectasis and lung infections, therefore, after the operation, we encourage and help the patients to cough and expel the sputum more often.
