What is hammertoe?

Hammertoe is a deformed curvature of the toe joint that forms a V-shaped osteoarticular shape, most commonly in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th toes. Hammertoes are often accompanied by foot pain and discomfort and can easily lead to the formation of corpus callosum. Hammertoes can be protected by orthopedic shoes with specially deepened toe spaces, custom-made personalized orthopedic insoles that carry the body weight evenly, and for severe hammertoes, only surgical interventions are considered: minimally invasive surgery or intermetatarsal joint fusion surgery.
