Can macular edema heal on its own?

Whether macular edema can heal by itself depends on the cause of macular edema and the degree of macular edema, generally the most common type of macular edema that can heal by itself is central plasma retinal chorioretinopathy, which is more common among middle-aged and young people, mostly caused by exertion or resistance decline, with macular edema as the main cause. If the central plasma is mainly mild macular edema, it can heal on its own, usually with conservative treatment and medication to improve circulation, it can have a tendency to heal on its own or completely heal on its own. However, if the degree of edema is relatively large, the chance of self-healing may be smaller, and active treatment, such as vitreous cavity injection, is still needed. In case of macular edema caused by retinal vein obstruction, age-related macular degeneration or diabetic retinopathy, which is common in middle-aged and elderly people, the chance of self-healing is very small and most of them need treatment for gradual relief, usually vitreous cavity injection, or even laser or vitreous surgery for complete improvement.
