Fengyan blue, also known as water hyacinth, is recorded in the Chinese Materia Medica as having the effects of evacuating wind-heat, inducing diuresis and clearing lymphatic flow, and can be used to treat wind-heat colds, edema, and feverish lymphatic flow (burning and tingling obvious when urinating, accompanied by frequent urination and urgency, and discomfort from traction in the lower abdomen) and other illnesses.
As a traditional Chinese medicine, the medicinal source is the root or the whole herb of Wind-Eye Lotus of the family Yuzhujiaceae, which has the efficacy of evacuating wind-heat, inducing diuresis, clearing heat and removing toxins. It can be used internally or externally, and is able to be used for the treatment or improvement of wind-heat colds, oedema, feverish gonorrhea, urinary stones, rubella, eczema, and boils, among other conditions.
