There are three major categories of common foot deformities, in general: 1) foot and ankle surgery most commonly known as bunions; 2) flatfoot syndrome, or flat feet; and 3) high arched feet, where the arch of the foot is relatively high. In general, flat feet and bunions and high arches account for almost 90% of common foot deformities. Of course there are also some toe deformities, such as hammertoe, which are frequently encountered in outpatient clinics. Foot deformities are generally classified as congenital or acquired. Congenital deformities are mainly seen in children, or in children who are not treated after conception and eventually become more and more aggravated deformities. Common deformities, such as high arched feet and clubfoot, are congenital. Acquired deformities such as flat feet and bunions. There are two types of flat feet, such as soft flat feet in children or young patients. Soft flat feet are not treated and later develop into rigid flat feet. Bunions are generally acquired. Bunions are the most common type of foot deformity. Of course, there are also toe deformities, such as hammertoes and pestle fingers, which are often seen in outpatient clinics.
