Robotic minimally invasive resection

Mr. Zhang, 56 years old, with severe hypertension and diabetes for more than 20 years and poor treatment results, found out 3 months ago that he originally had a huge 7 – 8 cm tumor, the most risky pheochromocytoma for surgery, in a very deep site and behind the largest vena cava, left and right renal veins in the body. He went to a number of major local hospitals in Jiangsu and Shanghai. The answer was: minimally invasive surgery was unlikely, a large incision (40 cm incision) was needed, and the kidney might have to be removed because the veins were affected, and a section of the vena cava might have to be removed and replaced by an artificial vessel. After finding Prof. Shen Zhoujun, he was fully prepared and, together with Prof. Peng Chenghong of the Department of Surgery, he used the da Vinci robot to cut down this tumor successfully. The kidney and vena cava were not damaged. Such a difficult surgery, successfully completed, has not been seen reported internationally.
