Novel coronavirus is transmitted mainly through respiratory droplets, but can also be transmitted by contact. Contact transmission is most commonly caused by direct hand contact or indirect contact with objects used by the patient without thorough hand washing, which leads to self-infection through close contact behaviors such as rubbing the eyes and touching the mouth. Recent studies have found that the novel coronavirus can also be transmitted through the fecal-oral route, with some patients presenting with gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea, so personal protection is needed for the patient’s vomit and feces.
