Prevalence of blindness in open-angle glaucoma

Open-angle glaucoma is a type of glaucoma, and there are no clinical statistics on the blindness rate of this disease. Because the disease is preventable and controllable, as long as it is treated early, it can be completely restored to normal and will not cause blindness. Unless the disease is not treated in a timely manner or the treatment process does not follow the medical advice resulting in a sharp increase in intraocular pressure, blindness will be formed, which is still relatively rare in clinical practice. According to current clinical experience, the chance of this disease causing blindness does not exceed 5%. For open-angle glaucoma, the main treatment is mainly conservative medicine, early selection of IOP-lowering drugs to control the IOP in the normal range, to avoid damage to the optic nerve caused by high IOP.
