The primary treatment for sudden blindness is to find the cause and treat the cause. Most diseases that cause blindness can be restored or partially restored with prompt medical attention and aggressive treatment, such as acute glaucoma, acute uveitis, diabetic retinopathy haemorrhage, hypertensive fundus haemorrhage and methanol poisoning.
Certain diseases are critical and blindness is irreversible if the best treatment time is missed, such as acute glaucoma, retinal artery embolism, acute optic neuritis, and severe ocular trauma.
