Glucocorticoid is an indispensable hormone in the human body. It plays an important role in regulating the biosynthesis and metabolism of sugars, fats, and proteins. Glucocorticoids in our body are mainly secreted by the adrenal glands in our body, etc. The glucocorticoids used in our life, especially in medical treatment, are mainly synthesized by chemical methods. The common glucocorticoids in life are prednisone, cortisone, hydrocortisone, dexamethasone and so on. The main functions of glucocorticoids are: 1. Physiological doses of glucocorticoids are mainly used in the replacement therapy of pituitary insufficiency and adrenocortical insufficiency caused by various reasons. 2. Corticosteroids have powerful anti-inflammatory, anti-shock and immunosuppressive effects. They are commonly used in the treatment of bronchial asthma, hyperthermia, acute severe infection, allergy, autoimmune diseases, malignant tumors, and some refractory skin diseases. However, glucocorticoids are not suitable for people with active peptic ulcers, severe hypertension, diabetes, corneal ulcers, osteoporosis, pregnant women, hyperadrenocorticism, severe psychosis and epilepsy, and cardiac or renal insufficiency. Long-term use of glucocorticosteroids may lead to obesity, decreased immunity, osteoporosis, and peptic ulcers. Therefore, glucocorticoids are important hormones for the human body, but they should be used appropriately and reasonably.
