Is it okay to take a statin every other day?

Similar to most medications, statins are not recommended to be taken every other day. Taking statins every other day is not recommended, regardless of whether the cholesterol-lowering goal or target has been met. Long-term use of statins allows blood levels to remain high, which can improve the efficacy of the drug. Statins do a good job of suppressing cholesterol and lowering LDL, and if statins are taken once every other day, they may not allow blood levels to reach good levels. Statins are not like analgesic drugs, but analgesic drugs also require consistently high blood levels to obtain analgesia. Antibiotics need to be administered multiple times a day or continuously in order to obtain high steady-state blood levels. Even if you forget to take a statin one day, it does not really matter, as long as you continue to take it a second time, you can still achieve continuous drug efficacy. However, it is not recommended to take statins every other day because the blood levels do not reach a good level every other day and the cholesterol level may rise suddenly, which may also be harmful to coronary heart disease or vascular changes.
