What is constipation and its causes

Under normal circumstances, a healthy adult should have a bowel movement once every 1-2 days, with a soft texture of stool, a smooth bowel movement, and no feeling of incomplete defecation afterwards. In my clinic, I often encounter people who say they have constipation and ask for laxatives or medications to open their bowels. It seems that most people do not know what constipation is. From the time a person eats, through the digestive tract digestion and absorption, to the formation of feces by the anus, it usually takes 24 to 48 hours, but due to the different dietary structure, habits and other aspects of each person, the time of stool also varies. In general, we believe that anyone who needs more than 20 minutes to pass stool each time can be diagnosed as constipation. Some people are also common in the clinic, that is, more than 2 days, or even a week to defecate once, but the defecation time is only a few minutes, think they are constipated, often drink diet tea, laxative tea and other laxatives at home, this is the wrong approach. Drinking laxatives for a long time will have a great damage to the intestinal tract. Constipation is generally divided into three types: 1, export obstructive constipation, the cause of rectal mucosal overlap, puborectal muscle spasm, rectal protrusion, postoperative scar contracture, etc.. 2, intestinal slow transmission type constipation, the cause of intestinal dysfunction, intestinal adhesions, intestinal occupational lesions, megacolon, senile slow peristalsis, laxative abuse caused by intestinal ganglion transmission to abnormalities, etc., 3, that is, both of the above. We strongly recommend that patients with constipation should not abuse laxatives at will, but should be treated by a combination of drugs, food regulation, biofeedback and other means under the guidance of a doctor.
