Some people say, married to a person, is married to a way of life, such as the husband prefers to smoke, then wafted out of the tobacco flavor, the wife is always inseparable. However, the National Health and Family Planning Commission Research Institute scholars of more than 5 million couples of childbearing age survey found that the husband smoked, the wife’s bad luck, the risk of hypertension increased. And the greater the husband’s smoking habit, the higher the risk of his wife getting high blood pressure. The wives surveyed in the study were between the ages of 20-49. More than 700 million women in China are exposed to secondhand smoke. The researchers pointed out that the study suggests that tobacco control is not enough only in public places, and its tentacles should reach into the home. Every citizen should be more aware of quitting smoking, especially in the family. Risk of Hypertension in Wives of Husbands in Relation to Daily Smoking in Different Age Groups Regarding the mechanism by which blood pressure in wives is affected by smoking in husbands, the researchers noted that it may be related to stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system, increased inflammation and endothelial function damage. It’s worth noting that in this study, wives who reported that their husbands smoked but were not exposed to secondhand smoke were still at higher risk for hypertension. The researchers hypothesized that this could be a result of third-hand smoke at work, such as the husband’s fingers, hair, and clothes that always shook off the third-hand smoke. “Missing your laugh, missing your coat” isn’t always romantic. The study included a total of 5,027,731 couples from 31 provinces and municipalities and regions across the country, aged 20 to 49 years old, in the 2014 National Free Preconception Screening Program. Smoking was defined as smoking at least 1 cigarette per day for at least 1 year; secondhand smoke exposure was defined as daily exposure to secondhand smoke.
