How to take oseltamivir capsules

Oseltamivir capsules are used for the prevention of influenza A and B in adults and adolescents 13 years of age and older, and for the treatment of influenza A and B in adults and children 1 year of age and older.
1. When used for influenza prevention:
It is recommended that the drug be administered within 2 days after close contact with a person with influenza for better results, 75mg per dose, once daily for at least 10 days.
Oseltamivir capsules can also be used to prevent influenza during the flu season, each time to take 75mg, once a day, can be taken for 6 weeks, during the period of time the drug has been preventive effect.
2. When used to treat influenza:
It is recommended that treatment should be started on the first or second day of the onset of flu symptoms, ideally within 36 hours.
Adults and adolescents 13 years of age and older may take 75 mg twice daily for 5 days.
Children over the age of 1 year can take a weight-based dose of 30mg per dose for children weighing ≤15 kg, 45mg per dose for children weighing 15-23 kg, 60mg per dose for children weighing 23-40 kg, and 75mg per dose for children weighing >40 kg. again, this is to be taken twice daily for 5 days.
Oseltamivir capsules can be taken with or without food. Adverse reactions such as nausea, vomiting and pain may occur when taking this medicine.
In some patients, taking the drug with food may improve the tolerance of the drug. It is contraindicated in people who are allergic to the drug, and is not recommended for use in children under 1 year of age as its effectiveness and safety are unknown.
