If it is a simple double kidney cyst, it usually does not affect the patient’s life expectancy; however, multiple cysts in both kidneys, such as congenital genetic chromosomal inherited lesions, may lead to the development of renal failure in late stages, which may affect the patient’s life expectancy, and the specific survival time varies from person to person. Double kidney cysts are benign lesions, if the cysts are small in size, they have less impact on health, and the patients’ life expectancy is the same as normal people. If the cysts of both kidneys are <4cm, usually no treatment is done and regular observation is sufficient. However, some adults with double kidney lesions, showing polycystic kidney changes, are hereditary diseases and often develop gradually after 30-50 years old. Once the disease develops, without effective treatment from Chinese and Western medicine, it may progress faster and may develop renal failure and uremic syndrome. If it enters the uremic phase and the treatment is not active, the patient may die within a few months. Patients with double kidney cysts are advised to have a light diet, reduce protein, salt and fat intake, avoid spicy and oily food, eat more fruits and vegetables, and avoid strenuous exercise and overexertion.
