What does urobilinogen (+-) mean?

Urobilinogen is mainly an indicator in urine routine, and urobilinogen (+-) means weakly positive. A normal test result should be negative for urobilinogen. If urobilinogen is weakly positive, we need to clarify the cause of it. In some non-pathological cases, such as staying up late, drinking alcohol, and strenuous exercise can lead to a weak positive urobilinogen, which is not a problem and can return to normal after avoiding these triggers. There are also some diseases that can cause a weak positive urobilinogen, such as hemolytic anemia, hepatocellular jaundice, and patients with severe burns. Therefore, if there is a weak positive urobilinogen, it is important to clarify whether it is pathological or non-pathological and to specify the cause.
