Is mesenchymal tumor a cancer?

Mesenchymal tumor is a tumor originating from mesenchymal tissue of the wall of the gastrointestinal tract and cannot be called cancer because it does not originate from epithelial tissue. Mesenchymal tumor is a mesenchymal tumor originating from the wall of gastrointestinal tract, which is a digestive tract tumor of smooth muscle or nerve tissue with low incidence, while cancer is a malignant tumor originating from epithelial tissue, the origin of both is different and should be diagnosed differently. Gastric mesenchymal tumor is insensitive to radiotherapy and chemotherapy, surgical resection is the preferred treatment, and long-term survival can be achieved after surgical resection. It is prone to recurrence after surgical resection and can be aggravated if left untreated. Although mesenchymal tumors have the potential to become malignant, more patients with mesenchymal tumors have a good prognosis after active treatment. If bleeding of unknown origin, anemia, pallor, black stool, etc. are found, it is recommended to immediately consult the gastrointestinal surgery department of the hospital for intracavitary ultrasound endoscopy, abdominal CT and other examinations to clarify the diagnosis and then follow medical advice for treatment.
