Why is lung cancer always found so late?

Middle-aged and elderly people, especially smokers, should have CT once a year. There is no doubt that at a time when the overall incidence of cancer is climbing extremely fast, lung cancer is like a wild horse off the reins, and has become the fastest rising cancer. “It can be said that without solving the problem of lung cancer, cancer prevention and control is just empty talk.” Recently, the professor emphasized in the “lung cancer prevention and control science popularization event” co-organized by China Cancer Foundation, Life Times and Sohu Health. ”According to the latest 2009 lung cancer-related data released by the World Lung Cancer Alliance, the number of deaths from lung cancer is already greater than the sum of deaths from colorectal, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers.” Professor Zhi Xiuyi, director of the Department of Tobacco Control and Lung Cancer Prevention and Control of the China Cancer Foundation and director of the Lung Cancer Treatment Center of Capital Medical University, said that although the concept of lung cancer prevention and treatment has been emphasized over the years, unfortunately, there are still many clinical misconceptions about lung cancer prevention and treatment, and nearly 80 percent of patients will still be diagnosed only in the middle and late stages. “Lung cancer is still found too late!” Zhi Xiuyi deplored. Otherwise, through multiple treatments, early stage patients can even live exactly like healthy people. Zhi Xiuyi explained that the reason for such a situation is, firstly, because the lung is relatively large and deep inside the chest cavity, the early lesions of lung cancer are small and rarely cause obvious symptoms or discomfort. Secondly, even if there are some early symptoms, they can be easily confused with other diseases. Professor Hu Chengping, Director of Department of Respiratory Medicine, Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, pointed out that swollen and painful bone joints, shoulder and back pain, hoarse voice, etc. may be manifestations of lung cancer, but how many people would associate these with lung cancer? However, how many people will associate these with lung cancer? They can only delay the treatment for nothing. Thirdly, lung cancer screening is not as effective as other cancers, and it is difficult to promote it except in areas with high incidence of lung cancer. ”But this situation is not unchangeable. If the government increases tobacco control, reduces environmental pollution, and people relax their minds and live healthily, prevention and control of lung cancer will not be a problem.” Professor Shi Yuankai, vice president of Cancer Hospital of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, said, and the most effective measure is regular medical checkups, and high-risk people, especially smokers, should have low-dose spiral CT once every six months to a year after the age of 40. “It shall not be the best, even if you get cancer, you have more chances if you find it one day earlier.” ”Over the years, lung cancer treatment technology in China has also undergone great changes, and various treatments are wonderful, especially targeted drugs are emerging, and patients who may not live more than a month originally, nowadays, can live a long and spiritual life.” Professor Liao Meilin, deputy director of the Lung Cancer Committee of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association, said that according to such a trend, lung cancer should not be long in becoming a chronic disease.
