Sports medicine is a young sub-discipline in the field of medicine, and is a comprehensive cross-application science combining orthopedic science, rehabilitation medicine, biomechanics and kinesiology. The main purpose of sports medicine is to provide scientific guidance to sportsmen by using medical knowledge and techniques; to prevent sports injuries and diseases through proper protection, to protect the health of sportsmen and improve sports performance; and to effectively treat and rehabilitate injuries to bones, joints and surrounding tissues during sports. Arthroscopy and minimally invasive techniques are the most important core technologies applied in sports medicine. The first generation of Chinese sports medicine experts, led by Professor Qu Mianwei, pioneered this new field of medicine under difficult conditions. After decades of hard work by several generations, the development of sports medicine in China has shown a prosperous scene in recent years. Mass sports and national fitness campaigns are widely carried out in China, and the people’s awareness of sports and fitness is constantly rising. After the Beijing Olympic Games and the Guangzhou Asian Games were held in China, the people’s love and awareness of sports, and the importance of sports protection and sports injuries and illnesses have become increasingly obvious. All these have created a rich fertile ground for sports medicine to thrive in China. Since 2009, August 8 of each year has been designated as “National Fitness Day”, and sports have become an important part of the lives of people of different ages, professions and walks of life, not only for professional athletes on the field, but also for people of different ages, professions and walks of life, which has put forward higher and more difficult requirements for the development of sports medicine.
